Chapter 12 – The National Army: A Promise of Honor

An army isn’t just a body of soldiers—it’s a living, breathing shield, forged to guard the sacred lands and the beating hearts within. Its sacred mission: to defend the nation, with weapons if necessary, from the shadows creeping beyond borders. Sometimes it marches forward to reclaim what’s rightfully its nation’s, to seize and hold enemy ground—always for the homeland’s honor. The Cameroonian Army, born of colonial hands, bears wounds and scars that the UNIVERS Party vows to heal.

The Problem

Born to serve the colonial masters, the Army’s first role was suppression—crushing the sparks of freedom’s fire. When independence dawned, it transformed… or did it? Instead of embracing liberty, it guarded a neocolonial throne, silencing those who dared dream of true freedom. Today, it fights well beyond the borders, against invaders and terror. But shadows linger—the Army still turns its gaze inward, against its own people, crushing dissent beneath its boots.

The Solution

UNIVERS dreams of an Army reborn, pure in its republican creed. Its mission? Defend the nation—no more, no less. The frontiers shall bear the weight of its watchful eyes, where barracks rise like sentinels. Inside the homeland, the Army will only appear as guardian angels—rescuers in disasters, protectors in crises. No longer shall it be the sword of political oppression, nor the hammer of internal order. Gone must be the days when the Army bows to one man alone, even if he wears the crown of the Presidency. The costly Presidential Guard? Let it vanish, a relic of excess. Presidential safety shall be kept by means less hungry, less divisive.

Soldiers will live, eat, and rest within their barracks—their little worlds separate from civilian streets. They shall not mingle in the village lanes or city corners, nor wander in uniform unless the call to arms beckons. Military justice will serve only the military—civilians shall never again face the drumbeat of military courts.
